Ramayana- A quick peek into the past
Today I am going to talk about the great indian epic-Ramayana. This blog is for all the non-history readers who want to know about our hindu epics. First of all let me tell you that Ramayana is written by rishi Valmiki and to all those who wonder that this is just a tale or mythical story then people you are absolutely wrong! I am not just saying this because I am big fan of it but because there are loads of texts and many real proofs about Ramayana. This epic is really long and there is much to talk about it but for now I'll tell about it in short.
Just as the name suggests Rama-yana means Rama's Journey, is an epic about a great common human being Prabhu Shree Ram.
We all know that the world is run by the tridev
Brahma Vishnu and Shiva. It is a known fact that whenever Adharmi's or evil people start ruling the world our tridevs come to our help and basically there is a win over the evil. Vishnu as we all know is the preserver of earth and so whenever people start spreading adharm or cross their limits he takes birth on earth as an avatar and brings the world at peace.

This is a great epic of Prabhu shree Rama who is none other than Lord Vishnu's Avatar or incarnation
Lord Vishnu took birth as Rama to kill king Ravana and spread dharma all over the world which he eventually did. Ravana- Lankeshpati the king of lanka known for his great strength, knowledge, power, cruelty and immense arrogance.
Rama took birth as a descendent of the Raghu i.e the Raghuvanshis who were great kings of their times.
His father Dashrath was the king of Ayodhya and Ram took birth from the womb of mata Kaushalya. He had 2 stepmothers' Mata Kaikeyi and Mata Sumitra
Prabhu Ram had 3 step brothers Bharat( from Mata Kaikeyi's womb) and twins Laxman and Shatrugan(from Mata Sumitra's womb). All the 4 brother's shared a very good bonding,Prabhu Ram being the eldest of the four.
This is about Shree Ram's Kingdom and his family who strived for Dharma.
Soon Shree Ram got married to Mata sita who was the princess of mithila nagari. Mata Sita was the incarnation of Maa lakshmi( Wife of Lord vishnu).
The Main story-
The main epic starts when King Dashrath on the request of Rama's stepmother Mata Kaikeyi sends Rama to 14 year exile to the forest and Sita along with his brother Lakshman accompanies him .Rama to follow his dharma sets out for exile into the forest, kills many of the evil asuras and preaches his good deeds all over the world.Until one day Ravana(king of lanka) abducts Mata Sita which results into a war. The other half is about Rama killing Ravana , Rama meeting his loyal devotee- Shree Hanuman, bringing sita back, his return to Ayodhya and his coronation as the king.
The conclusion -
If you read the Ramayana, you will find that Shree Ram is an epitome of an ideal son, ideal brother, ideal husband, ideal king and most importantly he was an epitome of an 'Ideal Human'...that is what Ramayana teaches us,it depicts how a human being should behave , the qualities he must possess...definitely no one can replace Shree Ram but at least we can try to inculcate those qualities shree ram possessed, in ourselves...At the end Ramayan is a wonderful take on the victory over the evil.
There's' so much to know about Ramayana and there are around 7 versions of the story. Also there are around 500 texts about the same.
